The story behind Mesir Macun: -
The wife of Ottoman Sultan Yavuz Sultan Selim and the mother of Kanuni Sultan Suleyman, Hafsa Sultan, fell ill while in Manisa. Since no cure was found, the head of the Sultan Mosque Madrasah Merkez Efendi prepared a pasta mix of herbs and spices. Hafsa Sultan, who was better off eating this pasta prepared using different kinds of spices, ordered this pasta to be thrown out of the minarets and domes of the Sultan Mosque.
